Preparing your home for Photography

To get the most out of your photoshoot it is important to prepare your homeowners for the session. Below is a list of helpful tips that you can use to get ready for the shoot.

Prep list for homeowners

1) Put away all clutter, and remove as much as possible from all flat surfaces. We understand that you have to live in your home while its being sold and you may run out of places to put things, a good tip if you have run out of space, is to use one room to store all the clutter such as an office or laundry room and we will shoot that room last.

2) In the kitchen its best to clear the countertop as much as possible, turn on all lighting, remove the magnets from the fridge, and put away any food that is visible as well as remove anything from the top of your refrigerator. You can use a the sink to hide small items such as soap and towels, if possible remove any unsightly trash cans from the room.

2) Make sure that the beds are all made up and double check that the pillows are fluffed and in the best positions, and hide any unsightly cords, cables, and phone chargers.

3) Its a good idea to remove all products from the bathroom sinks as well as the showers if visible and remove any towels from the back of the doors. It usually looks nicer in photos without hand towels hanging,  but if you have nice matching hand towels then just pull them tight so they look nice.

4) Check that all the light bulbs in the home are working. If possible replace bulbs that are dim or are not the same color as the rest of the room with fresh LED light bulbs of the same color such as daylight balanced LED bulbs. It makes a huge difference when a home has fresh bright white LED bulbs throughout the home for the shoot. Also please turn off all the fans in the house.

5) Open the blinds up all the way and check that they are even with the other window blinds in the room and tie back any drapes or curtains to allow as much light into the home as possible.

6) If there are any pets please make sure that their beds are put away and any food and water bowls are not visible, its a good idea to hide anything pet related. If possible before the photographer arrives put animals in a room or outside so that they are not wondering around during the shoot.

7) Remove any cars from the driveway, and hide trash cans if possible.
